STEP 1: Calculate the square footage of the entire area you want to cover.
STEP 2: Calculate how deep it needs to be. First-time installations usually need to be 4” deep. With pre-existing beds, though, you can get by with 2” deep.
STEP 3: Convert into cubic yards because we charge by the cubic yard.
FOR EXAMPLE: For a 20'x30' bed, that would be 600 square feet.
If you want it 4" deep, 4 inches is 1/3 of a foot. Multiply 1/3 by 600 = 200 cubic ft.
Once you calculate cubic feet, then you divide by 27 (because there’s 27 feet in one cubic yard). Therefore, 200 divided by 27 = 7.4 cubic yards.
In order to ensure you'll have enough for your project, you should round the figure up and order 8 cubic yards.
